not starting from scratch. i worked very closely with america's cup. the people's plan was a product of a lot of community input and a lot of those concerns and issues came right out of the same area of the waterfront we're talking about now. because that was so recently gathered, that input, that became a great foundation for us to say, hey, if you've already spent some of those 260 meetings we had in the last two years in the america's cup, your thoughts, your comments weren't wasted on us. we recorded them, actually color-coded them to make sure i took track of what we heard in the beginning of 2010, what we heard in 2011, what we heard in 2012. these are actually online. hosted by wed's website. there are pages and pages of community input about transit, about pedestrian safety, about accessibility, about employers worried about their employees getting to work. and we also wanted to make sure that we had comments resolved in time because we had a great experience with the america's cup. and ware going to have more experiences with the america's cup. last year was the first test of what is
for that year. i can tell you that working with americas cup taught me volumes about how red and i quick we can be when we're smart in planning ahead to supply the capacity when and where it needs to be. so, summaries about first round of workshops we had on october 30th, these are just two of the six slides. we have the marked up maps, the top six concerns. we also have pages of individual concerns that came out of that. these are also posted on our website because we want this process to be transparent. if you weren't able to make work shock 1 on october 30th we're hoping you'll help us december 4th the next workshop. at that workshop i've already heard loud and clear from the community let's have better data on the integration of land use and transportation. so, we are preparing maps that show not only all those transit networks but what the land use is, making sure the future transit is falling where the land use needed to be. but thanks to the planning department, we've got those maps underway. what's really interesting is the comment that came out was, okay, we've got this data, we know i

is the america's cup experience. you remember the weekend supposed to end by weekend. october 6 or october 7 where we had america's cup fleet week, giants, 49ers, everything happening. we had extraordinary transit modes. we had record rider ship on every single conveyor of people moving out of the area. the lesson is don't scare people away. invite them to take transit. make the options real. do fantastic marketing. i have a feeling our transit was some of the highest we ever saw. it is much more malleable formula. i would say the assumptions back in '99 weren't that far off from where we were, but the trends we're seeing now are positive in getting more people walking and bicycle and especially with the america's cup experience on transit. >> my question, then -- another question on the giants stadium, when you looked at the cost in terms of the transit investments that we had to make, some increased demand in the neighborhood, do you feel like we were able to adequately calculate those costs and how with the warriors arena do we plan to estimate from that? and if the impact fee is in the r
of be the moderator for tonight, as we go through this first-ever challenge america summit. so i've got just a few things that, you know, i wanted to do with everyone, before we get into the program. first of all, i just want to take a minute and have everyone just look around this room. in this room, we have amazing people that are corporate, nonprofit, and government, all focused on challenge driven innovation in some way or another. this is a really powerful,interf people that are gathered here to look at how competitions can drive innovation. that's what tonight is all about, is, you know, the next step in creating a real wave of innovation. my job tonight is just to give you a little bit of background on what we are, what we're tiqp)q)s that we have.roup of so just to get going with that, i want to tell you a little bit about this thing called the night rover/< challenge. this is a collaboration between the clean tech open, unoodle, and nasa. it's a program from nasa's office of centennial challenges. and it's challengin the best innovators in america to create radical new energy storage tec

america's cup. that was a tremendously important experience. actually we treated that input from the outreach seriously and we rowntded up the input we got from america's cup and through the progress reports and at the cac meetings of this project and at the hearing we got input as well and on the website you will see pages of community input we managed and structured and categorized it and it's shaping this assessment for us. but i don't want to down play how important it was to play with the america's cup. we piloted and tried our hand at new things and erks lie and a project and carried hundreds of people and that is a pilot project that could have a legacy. we have the bike sharing program this spring and we work with the companies to do a proxy bike sharing program and get it place for the america's cup and valet parking and giving pedestrians real time estimates how long it goes from point a, say the ballpark to the ferry building and helping visitors orient themselves around the waterfront and this is a advantage that we have piloted and try our hand at some solutions.

-purpose arena. there's no city half itself size in america that doesn't have this and as a result many world class acts bypass san francisco. we will now have a place for the family shows, those concerts and performances and to date we haven't had a location for. one of our mostarden supporters and the san francisco convention bureau, sf travel. they see this project as filling a distinct void in the city's portfolio thattee can make available for conventions and meetings and events in our city. very important. we will make a promise with jobs and 1700 permanent positions and over 4,000 other jobs and aggressive hiring and business commitments new economic engine for this part of our city. we will create massive economic benefits. jenn just ran through those. 10 to 20 million annual direct tax few revenue to the city. over $50 million of one time impact fees and 60 million annually in new visitor spending. all of that again without any money from the city's general fund or any new taxes and last but not least we want to use this arena as an engineer to create a great new public space
in the world and we have honors such as the greenest city in north america, the walkable city, and the best green policies, the green tech of north america and forbes recognized that san francisco has the most green jobs in the united states. that's jobs. that's one of the most important things we are doing for the whole country. [applause] and we are creating and sustaining jobs as well as supporting new industries in our city. our energy watch program creates or sustains 180 jobs a year. san francisco has now achieved 80% landfill diversion rate setting the national recycling and compost records as the high of any city in north america. [applause] and by the way as a former public works director you ought ton how proud i am. we have the best compost in the united states and in fact it's sold to all of the wineries in napa that make and produce the best wines in the world. our partners employs over a thousand green collar employees and solar sf resulted in hiring from employees from disadvantaged communities in the work force program. i want to acknowledge and thank green build towar
, and asking for authority to sign for the general manager to sign the contract with shell energy north america and kick the program o off. that early notification period needs to meld well with the formal launch of the statutory opt out period, that's the opt out program we've talked about before that's required by the state. so we want those two components to work well together. we'll be presenting to you our key communication strategies and our overall budget, and again the proposed clean power sf timeline that factors in these changes, and in particular the early notification period concept. to given you a quick overview of the timeline, and with an emphasis on the action item for you, i'm turning to slide three, where, at this time period, we are reaching out to yourselves, to members of the board, to the mayor's office, we having the joint meeting with lafco to make sure we're really on track with the intentions from the board and the mayor, making sure that we are putting together a customer notification education plan that's supportive of your intentions. we'll be asking you to approve

, jed, mr. silverstein. thank you. how lucky are we? over the past few weeks we have seen america's cup, fleet week, giants home games, 49ers and countless other festivals. as we sit here a few hours from another great day of san francisco sports, with the 9ers hosting the seahawks, going to beat them. hosting the cardinals in st. louis and winning game four. today we can celebrate the bid for the next super bowl in san francisco and bay area. as has been mentioned the super bowl is a world class event and deserves a world class city and world class region to host it. as a kid who grew up here in san francisco and in the fall to trek every sunday to candlestick park to watch the 49ers play, now this is such an exciting time that we get to have the chance to host the event that we only got to watch on tv for the past few decades. what an incredible time for our city. even if the super bowl's played down the road in santa clara, for us, these are the san francisco 49ers. always have been, always will be. san francisco 49er fan also be so excited and come together as a region and city behi
